Details:
Hours: 10-20 hours per week
Casual contract with high potential to become permanent staff member.
Shifts available 7am -8am ,10:30am – 14:30pm or 10.30am-11am, 9.30pm-10pm, 8pm-10pm
Option for waking night shift cover at times too.
Hourly rate: £10 per hour at all times rising to £11 per hour after probationary period (6 months)
Based at: Employers own home in Ward End, Birmingham B8 and surrounding areas
The main purpose of the role:
To support the employer to live as independently as possible within her own home. The employer would like support with personal care needs, caring for her dog, domestic chores, driving and accompaniment on walks and day trips out.
About myself (The employer):
I am a 44 year old woman with Bethlem Myopathy which is a rare type of Muscular Dystrophy.
I enjoy going out everyday especially to walk my dog at different parks, visiting shops and cafes. I also love going to a good concert or visiting animal parks.
I enjoy watching TV series, movies, playing Nintendo games and board games. I also like training my dog. I enjoy socialising and day trips to different places so every day is not the same
My ideal candidate is someone who has good chat and is up for a laugh as well as being down to earth, straightforward and honest. Most importantly, you must like dogs as my dog is a massive part of my life.
Main duties:
Personal care:
The employer requires assistance with personal care including bed baths, hair washing and toileting needs.
You will be required to monitor the employer’s skin integrity especially whilst washing, moisturising and applying compression wraps to legs due to Lymphoedema.
You will be required to give assistance occasionally with NIV (non-invasive ventilation) as the employer uses NIV 24 hours a day due to breathing difficulties. You may need to switch machines or use an LVR bag (like an Ambi bag) in an emergency.
Mobility:
Hoisting is used for all transfers, slide sheet is used for positioning and employer uses an electric wheelchair.
Social Support:
The employer would like support to access the community and participate in her chosen social activities including trips to parks, shops, concerts and social events as this will enable her to live a normal social life.
Part of this job includes help caring for the employers dog such as grooming and putting on a car harness.
Personal Specifications
Have a full clean driving license and ability to drive an automatic vehicle
No experience in care necessary as all training is given, but must be interested in care work
Be flexible in the hours and times that you can work
Be patient, supportive, friendly, outgoing, honest, reliable and trustworthy
Be respectful of employers dignity at all times
Understand the need for privacy and confidentiality.
You should have a thorough understanding of personal safety
Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
A willingness to undergo any training highlighted by the employer
You should have some knowledge and understanding of risks
