In my most recent caring role I was a live in carer for a lady with vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease and her golden retriever dog. I was the first live in carer employed by the family and enabled my client to remain in her own home environment from the point she needed live in care until her recent death. During this time I undertook all aspects of care from companionship through to personal care, household chores, gardening and also looking after the dog. I formed a close relationship with the family during this time.
My previous role to this was working for a care company doing a mixture of live in care and scheduled care visits in the community. I found the scheduled visits challenging as I was unable to provide the level of care that I aspire to in the short time available and as a consequence I prefer live in care.
Prior to this role I was caring for a family member who had had a stroke.
